The Devil’s Sanctuary is a psychothriller that takes place at a clinic in the Swiss Alps. (Translation: Neil Smith)

The novel was adapted into a tv-series  (Sanctuary) in 2019 with Josefin Asplund and  Matthew Modine in the main roles.

 The Devil´s SanctuaryReviews:

This is a workably nightmarish premise, which Hermanson exploits cleverly, doling out the odd glimmer of hope only to enmesh her hero, and the reader, more deeply in the no-exit web she’s spinning.”
  New York Times

Alfred Hitchcock meets the cult TV series “The Prisoner” in Swedish author Hermanson’s twisted thriller. (…) Hermanson makes the most of this intriguing concept, and the secret Himmelstal hides will surprise most readers.
Publishers Weekly, Starred review

With very small means, Hermanson builds up a tension that appears increasingly Kafkaesque and claustrophobic / … / Himmelsdalen shapes up to be a contemporary gothic horror, with characters straight from the totalitarian wax cabinet and with an unexpected lunatic running the show / … / a chilling pageturner.
Aftonbladet

I’m hooked already from the first page. The atmosphere that builds is hard to resist. Even when I have finished the book the sinister mood lingers.
Kommunalarbetaren

… a well-executed suspense novel / … / If you enjoy high quality suspense literature you should definitely read “Himmelsdalen” …
